We’ve got a new-style newsletter that we hope will make it easier for you to read through and see what we’ve been up to. We hope you enjoy it and look forward to hearing your feedback about what you enjoyed reading and what you’d like to see more of. We’re always open to new suggestions too.

Regional Meetings

As my Shed is south of the M4, I have attended the Southern Men’s Sheds Network meetings since they started. At the last two I have spoken about what the UKMSA is up to and got feedback from those present. I want to do more of this because I believe I can only do my job if I get to meet members from across the UK. So, if any of you have a regional meeting or similar coming up (especially if it is well north of the M4) then do let me know and I, or one of the other trustees, would be pleased to come along.

Ambassador programme

A while back, Andover’s then chair, Brian Cooke (Kookie), suggested we should have Ambassadors that go out and encourage people to start new Sheds and help existing ones. The Ambassadors are those who know what it takes to set up and run a Shed. This programme is now in development and a pilot set of Ambassadors met late last month with the Programme Manager, Claire Shelton, to work out the next steps for this important work. This is one of the main ways we intend to grow the number of Sheds in the UK and, importantly, the number of men able to discover and benefit from Sheds!

One of the necessities of running a charity (as leaders of Sheds that are charities will know) is the joys of sorting out the Constitution. We’ve made a few changes to the UKMSA’s and there’s an Extraordinary General Meeting for members to approve, or not, the changes. If you are a Shed leader and you would like to vote, but can’t make it, please do send in a proxy vote form. You can set me up as your proxy and tell me how you want me to vote on your behalf. This will be a great help and, assuming we have your support, will help us in our quests for funding and other high profile support. More details available here.
