Charity Reporting

All charities must prepare and make available annual accounts and a trustees’ report. Thereafter the reporting and filing obligations depend upon your constitution, legal structure, income and asset levels.

We’re going to assume no Men’s Shed has assets in excess of £3.26 million and will therefore ignore that.

What the law requires

If your constitution requires an Independent Examination or Audit then UKMSA recommend you change your constitution to remove this obligation.

Annual Returns and Accounts, where required, must be submitted to the CC within 10 months of the year end.

All registered charities must keep their CC record up to date. In particular the following changes must be notified promptly:

  • Changes in primary contact
  • Changes in trustees or trustee contact details (address and/or telephone number)
  • Details of any bank accounts opened or closed

While these obligations may appear onerous and potentially difficult they are not. All reporting can be done online using your own log in details (Charity number and password).
