West Wight Men In Sheds have today donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to the residents on Totland. The lifesaving bit of equipment is now available 24/7 in a cabinet outside the parish office on The Broadway in Totland.
West Wight Men In Sheds (a registered charity) wanted to give something back to the local community that has supported them since they formed in 2018.
Ian Wright, a trustee of the charity said
“We had a discussion over lockdown about giving something back to the local community. We were aware of the importance of early access to a defibrillator in a cardiac arrest and realised that there was not one available 24/7 near our workshop. We then took the decision to purchase a Storage Cabinet and an AED from IOW Defibrillators a local charity that helps provide the lifesaving equipment.”
There will be free training sessions on using the AED and how to perform CPR available in the coming weeks for all local residents.
