What is the Armed Forces Community Accreditation Scheme?

The UK Men’s Sheds Association (UKMSA) Armed Forces Community Accreditation recognises Member Sheds that actively support and welcome the Armed Forces community through friendship, purposeful activity, and inclusive community spaces.

Launched on 15 September 2025 — the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain — the accreditation reflects UKMSA’s commitment to honouring those who serve or have served, while strengthening support for the Armed Forces community today.

Who is the Armed Forces Community?

The Armed Forces community includes:

  • Those currently serving in His Majesty’s Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve)

  • Veterans and former service personnel

  • Families, partners, carers, and dependants of those who serve or have served

About the Accreditation

The Armed Forces Community Accreditation is open to all UKMSA Member Sheds. Sheds do not need existing Armed Forces connections or veteran-led membership in order to apply.

The scheme recognises the many different ways Sheds support wellbeing, connection, purpose, and community for Armed Forces personnel, veterans, and their families.

Accreditation is available at three levels:

  • Bronze

  • Silver

  • Gold

Each level reflects a Shed’s commitment to creating welcoming, supportive environments and building meaningful links with the Armed Forces community.

What Accreditation Means for Sheds

Successful Sheds receive:

  • An official digital and printable accreditation kitemark

  • Recognition of their support for the Armed Forces community

  • Guidance and resources to help strengthen inclusive practice

  • The opportunity to progress through accreditation levels over time

Accreditation lasts for 18 months, after which Sheds can renew or apply for a higher level when ready.
